Calibartion-Free Blood Pressure Measurement

A calibration‑free, non‑invasive blood pressure (BP) estimation methods for large blood vessels by combining high frame rate ultrasound imaging (B-mode & A-mode) with Doppler flow velocity measurements and arterial tonometry.

This project was undertaken as part my PhD thesis at Advanced Cardiovascular Technologies Laboratory and Healthcare Technology Innovation Centre at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, Chennai, India.

Background & Problem

Traditional blood pressure measurement relies on intermittent cuff-based methods, which:

  • Cause discomfort during frequent use
  • Are not suitable for long-term continuous monitoring

Invasive arterial lines offer continuous monitoring but are high-risk and impractical for routine or wearable scenarios. There is an unmet demand for a non-invasive, accurate, and continuous blood pressure monitoring technology that can seamlessly integrate into both medical and consumer health settings.

As the manuscript is under review, I will not be able to disclose the details of the project in public domain at the moment. The details will be updated as soon as the manuscript is accepted for publication. In mean time, please refer to the Patent Link: View Full Patent
